Matiang’i to send team to combat cattle theft and border conflict

A special team from the anti stock theft unit (ASTU) will be deployed in Borabu Constituency to address the unending cattle theft between the two neighboring communities of Abagusii and Kipsigis.

Interior cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i said that the cattle theft will come to an end once the team arrives in the area to give residents humble time to focus on building the economy.

Matiang’i noted that although the cases had drastically dropped, there were still few elements giving area residents sleepless nights with the recent one being when his brother’s (John Matiang’i) four cattle were stolen a forth night ago.

“We want to end this theft, I want to promise you the residents of Borabu that we will deploy the ASTU team as soon as possible  to weed out these few elements who are stealing our cows”, said Matiang’i.

The CS blamed the judiciary for releasing the cattle thieves on bond or jailing them for a lesser period and who (thieves) come to advance the vice once free.

“We have had calm moments before after we identified and arrested these thieves but after arraigning them in court, they were either released on bond or finished their jail term of few months and have come to continue with the bad behavior, we are going to ensure the courts don’t release these culprits once presented to them, the team will also help us to track down the main culprits”, he added.

The CS was speaking in Borabu Constituency where he laid a foundation stone for the construction of Matutu Police Station in Nyansiongo ward.

He was accompanied by the Inspector General of Police (IG) Hillary Mutyambai, Borabu M.P, Governor John Nyagarama and other top officials from the Ministry.
