Uganda President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni took his maiden train trip from the coastal city of Mombasa to the Kenya capital Nairobi.
The Ugandan leader arrived at pm Thursday evening after a four hour trip and on hand to receive him was his host President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto, who also gave him a brief tour of the Syokimau terminus .
On his Twitter handle the Ugandan leader described the train trip experience as comfortable.
“The SGR is key in cutting down transport costs, reducing pilferage and ensuring goods arrive faster to the hinterland. It will greatly reduce business costs,” said Museveni.
Museveni’s train ride is seen as a major endorsement for the construction of a seamless standard gauge railway between Uganda-Kenya through western Kenya boarder to Uganda’s capital, Kampala.
President Museveni is in the country for a three-day official tour and he is expected to give a public lecture on Friday at Kenyatta University.
