Speaker Lusaka- AFC Leopards has a bright future despite financial constraints.

The Senate speaker Honourable Kenneth Lusaka believes AFC Leopards has a bright future despite the financial constraints facing clubs in the grueling Kenya Premier League (KPL).

He has also called upon AFC Leopard to build on its recent good performance to be able to attract more fans that will form a critical and sustainable financial base.

Speaking during a fund raising in aid  of the club on Thursday night at the Laico Regency that raised over 2.7 million,Lusaka  said the team’s  performance will determine the club’s  destiny.

“What will attract more people is how you perform in the field. If Leopards wins the next five matches, fans will be thronging the stadium to watch their matches,I believe our clubs has a bright future despite the financial hiccups facing all clubs in the country following the withdrawal of  title  sponsor Sportpesa” Lusaka said.

Flanked by ODM secretary General Edwin Sifuna who brought opposition leader Raila Odinga’s donation of Ksh.100, 000, Sifuna said there was need for the Nyayo National Stadium to be opened urgently to ensure KPL clubs use it to avoid spending too much on transportation to other venue.

Eugene Wamalwa through his Personal Assistant committed to purchase a bus for the club to be delivered when AFC Leopards will be hosting its next home match at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.

COTU boss Francis Atwoli had last week donated Ksh. 1 Million that was meant to bail out the club to honour their away KPL tie against Sofapaka in Narok. Through his representative,the Cotu spokesman promised to donate a further Ksh. 10 Million shillings before the year ends.

Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi through his aide called upon the club management to lead a massive activation of digital registration of members targeting the masses at a low fee to sustainably raise funds for the club.

The event was graced by former club legends that included Joseph “JJ” Masiga,Robert Matano,Ken Kenyatta,Peter Ouma, and Washington Khamadi among others.

Deputy President Dr.William Ruto gave a personal donation of Ksh.1 million, Kenneth Lusaka (Senate Speaker)  and friends gave Ksh. 300,000, and Alex Muteshi Ksh. 200,000.

Those who donated Ksh.100, 000 included Hon.Raila Odinga,Tim Wanyonyi (Westlands MP) and Eugene Wamalwa (CS Devolution).

 Edwin Sifuna (ODM Sec General)  Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala , Caleb Amisi (Saboti MP) and Geoffrey Osotsi (Nominated MP) gave each Ksh.50,000 , and Sports C.S Amina Mohamed 30,000 among others.

AFC Leopards management led by club President Dr.Dan Shikanda gave Ksh.338, 650.Branches also sent their contributions.

  Face book branch gave Ksh. 60,000, Nairobi West branch 43,000, Buruburu 41,000, Bunyore branch 30,000, Stage Two  5,000, Trench branch 32,000,New Lucky Summer  14,500, Chairman of Chairman(COC ) 10,000, Mlango Kubwa 6,000, Amani Woodley  14,000, Loresho  15,000 (Pledge), Executive branch  31,000, Friends of Leopards 10,000, Lucky Summer  8,000, Eastern branch  10,000. Mashimoni branch 5,000, Kariobangi branch 15,000, Kibra branch 7,500, Huruma Digital 10,000, Nzoia branch 11,650, and Ongata Rongai 15,000 among others.
